Monitoring Wix DNS

Monitoring your Wix DNS records automatically is made easy with ZoneWatcher. After you've added your API credentials, we will automatically import all of your domains and begin monitoring them for changes.

About Wix DNS API

Wix manages DNS zones using Google's Cloud DNS infrastructure. The Domain DNS API allows you to connect domains registered through Wix to non-Wix websites, and manage DNS records for external domains connected to Wix sites by nameservers.

Important notes:

  • The Domain DNS API requires an account-level API key for authentication
  • Wix limits DNS records to 50 values per type
  • You can only update DNS zones for external domains connected by nameservers to a Wix site

Generating your Wix API Key

To get started adding your Wix account, you'll need an API key and your Account ID from the Wix dashboard. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Wix account
  2. Navigate to your account settings
  3. Go to the API Keys section
  4. Create a new API key with the "Manage Domains" permission
  5. Copy the generated API key securely
  6. Note your Account ID from the Wix developer dashboard

For more information, see Wix's official Domain DNS API documentation.

Creating your Wix Provider

Once you've generated your API key and located your Account ID, you can create your new Wix provider on ZoneWatcher by giving it a descriptive name and pasting your API Key and Account ID.

Monitoring Your Zones

After you've created your Wix provider, we will sync all the DNS zones associated with your account and their associated DNS records. You'll be able to view them from either the Provider's page or the Zone Dashboard.

ZoneWatcher will automatically monitor your DNS records for any changes and alert you when modifications are detected, helping you maintain security and prevent unauthorized DNS changes.
