Monitoring Katapult DNS
Monitoring your Katapult DNS records automatically is made easy with ZoneWatcher. After you've added your account credentials, we will automatically import all of your domains and begin monitoring them for changes.
Generating your Katapult API Token
To get started adding your Katapult account, you'll first want to retrieve your API token from Katapult's dashboard. We use this token to automatically fetch the domains and associated DNS records.
Navigate to your organization settings, then to the API Tokens section. Create a new API token with permissions to read DNS zones and records. Make sure to copy and save your token securely as it will only be shown once.
Security Note
Store your API token securely. Anyone with access to this token can read your DNS configuration.
Permissions for Change Management & Rollback
For monitoring-only use, scope the API token to read-only DNS zone and record permissions — ZoneWatcher will be able to list zones and records but cannot modify anything.
If you plan to use ZoneWatcher's Change Management or rollback features, the API token must include write permissions on DNS zones and records (the equivalent of dns_zones:write / dns_records:write) so ZoneWatcher can apply approved changesets and revert unauthorized changes.
Finding your Organization ID
You'll also need your Katapult Organization ID. Navigate to your Organization Settings in the Katapult dashboard. Your Organization ID will be displayed there and starts with org_ (for example: org_abc123xyz).
Creating your Katapult DNS Provider
Once you've retrieved your API token and Organization ID, you can create your new Katapult DNS provider on ZoneWatcher by giving it a descriptive name and entering both credentials.
Monitoring Your Zones
After you've created your Katapult DNS provider, we will sync all the zones associated with your organization and their associated DNS records. You'll be able to view them from either the Provider's page or the Zone Dashboard.
