Monitoring Hetzner DNS
Monitoring your Hetzner DNS records automatically is made easy with ZoneWatcher. After you've added your account credentials, we will automatically import all of your domains and begin monitoring them for changes.
Generating your Hetzner DNS API Token
To get started adding your Hetzner DNS account, you'll first want to generate an API token from the Hetzner Cloud Console. We use this token to automatically fetch your domains and their associated DNS records.
Navigate to your project in the Hetzner Cloud Console → Security → API Tokens and click "Generate API Token". Give your token a descriptive name (e.g., "ZoneWatcher Integration") and select Read & Write permissions so ZoneWatcher can manage your DNS records.
Important: Make sure to copy your API token immediately after creation, as Hetzner will only display it once. Store it securely until you've added it to ZoneWatcher.
Note: If you previously used a token from the old Hetzner DNS Console, you will need to generate a new token from the Hetzner Cloud Console. The old DNS Console tokens are not compatible with the new Cloud API.
Creating your Hetzner Provider
Once you've generated your API token, you can create your new Hetzner provider on ZoneWatcher by giving it a descriptive name and pasting in the API token you generated.
After entering your credentials, click the "Save" button. ZoneWatcher will verify your API token and begin importing your domains.
Monitoring Your Zones
After you've created your Hetzner provider, we will sync all the zones associated with your account and their associated DNS records. You'll be able to view them from either the Provider's page or the Zone Dashboard.
ZoneWatcher will automatically check for changes to your DNS records on a regular schedule. When changes are detected, you'll receive notifications through your configured notification channels, allowing you to stay informed about any modifications to your DNS configuration.
