Explain a record when you need it

DNS zones collect records that nobody on the team added by hand: a verification token from a signup flow, a CNAME from a hosting wizard, an MX from a mail migration. AI Record Explanations is on demand. Click Explain with AI on the record page, or Explain on a row in the zone's DNS records table, and ZoneWatcher writes a short explanation of what that one record is for.

What the explanation is based on

The model only sees context ZoneWatcher already has for that record, plus a live lookup of where a hostname target currently resolves. It is told not to invent a vendor or a policy that is not in that context.

The record itself

Name, type, TTL, value, and any priority, proxy, or CDN flag stored on the record.

Network context

For address records, the ASN, organization, and reverse DNS ZoneWatcher has already resolved for that IP.

Known TXT patterns

SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and domain-verification tokens such as Google site verification are identified before the model sees them.

Where it points

CNAME, MX, NS, and SRV targets are resolved live, and nameserver hostnames are matched to a known DNS vendor when the pattern is recognized.

The rest of the zone

Sibling records at the same name, and records that point at this one, so a lone A record can be read next to the MX or TXT that depends on it.

What you get back

Each explanation is a one-line summary, a short markdown brief, a category (website hosting, email authentication, domain verification, and so on), the service it looks like when one can be named, and a confidence level. High confidence means the value, reverse DNS, or a known token identified the service. Lower confidence means the purpose is inferred. Explanations are saved on the record until you regenerate them, and they are removed when the record itself is removed.
